Indiana
Indiana’s woodlands, rolling farmland, and small-town communities make it a perfect setting for natural and conservation burial grounds. While traditional cemeteries dominate, the state has strong potential for growth in eco-conscious burial options.
🌿Acres of Hope - Salem, In (Conservation Burial)
This space provides a dedicated natural burial ground where families can return to the earth simply and sustainably. Operated by Indiana Green Burials, this site is the state’s first conservation cemetery certified by the Green Burial Council.
Every burial here helps protect and restore the land. No embalming fluids, concrete vaults, or non-biodegradable caskets are permitted. Instead, the ground is kept natural, encouraging the return of native plants and wildlife to thrive across the preserve.
The Preserve at Spring Vale Cemetery -Lafayette, In (Hybrid)
Spring Vale Cemetery has created a dedicated natural section called The Preserve, offering families a space for green burial in harmony with the land. Here, burials are simple and sustainable, no embalming, no vaults, and only biodegradable caskets or shrouds.
The Preserve is designed to blend seamlessly with nature. Graves return gently to the soil, markers are kept low to preserve the view, and the surrounding landscape is maintained as open green space. Families are invited to participate in the process, making each burial personal, hands-on, and connected to the earth.
