Herbie Gently slipped away in my arms today, peacefully, with dignity, and with so much love

Cradled in my arms, snacks on his tongue, big eyes looking up at me slowly blinking to sleep and gently snuffling my hand stroking his chin and his paw missing a nail gently resting in my hand. His favourite episode of Waffle the Dog playing in the background, followed by Mr Tumble, and me singing him my favourite special lullaby that nana used to sing. Gently wrapped in blankets and then carefully tucked in and surrounded on a bed of carefully chosen and woven together plants, flowers and herbs from the garden. Little lavender bags I made with fur brushed from all the others and a lock of my hair so he wasn’t alone on the next stage of his journey. A spritz of my favourite perfume. Carefully and respectfully carried out to be taken on the next bit of his journey, the lady who helped him made sure the blinds on the roof were open so he was in sunlight , and all being well he will be back home with me tomorrow Nothing will ever be the same again
